a draft of a game (/poem/fairy tale/spiral/white-out). created for shufflecomp 2024. it's based entirely around one song, "a hole in the ground" (ty nulla for submitting it!)

about 2000 words, a few endings.

singer/songwriter dana margolin's words on the song:

"This is a song about not knowing, being trapped in a haunted fairytale or a horrible nightmare and running and running and predicting horrible futures that come true and self-fulfill. It’s a gentle lullaby but it’s also a folk tale with a tragic ending. This is a song about knowing what you don’t know yet. Seeing the future by guessing, being right."

I clicked every word my first playthrough and it was great seeing how everything is progressively erased. I read it as a gesture at the fallibility of memory, degradation over time, and how individual experience is ultimately just a sliver of the reality that can never be captured in full. The writing is awesome too.

everything’s constantly in some state of appearance and reappearance

This was great! Reminded me of blackout poetry

This was lovely; I enjoyed exploring through it several times, piecing some things together and admiring the fragments of the rest!

absolutely gorgeous. loved the journey, the act of creation, of slowly moving through this strange yet half-familiar world.
